In 2011, we held a fundraiser to sponsor our first year of mobile food distribution from Galveston County Food Bank. In 2021 LCUMC celebrated its 10th anniversary of this ministry for the community. "Food Truck" as it is called, serves on average 250 families a couple times a month. It was seen as such an important ministry, that our new church location designed the pora-cochere to house the commercial truck that delivers the food.
When the COVID pandemic gripped our country and many area ministries were forced to shut down, League City worked with Galveston County Food Bank to revamp the program and how the food was distributed so that the ministry could safely continue. LCUMC was one of the few distribution locations that never shut down during the pandemic, and safely kept food available to our community.
Our church has held fall festivals for the length of our history. Women's societies have hosted bake-offs. Youth have hosted haunted houses. Sunday School classes sponsored fall festival booths.
In 2012, we hosted our first Trunk-or-Treat community outreach and festival. Trunk-or-Treat is still celebrated today and includes a hayride (when conditions permit), a cake walk and dozens of trunks to visit and enjoy.
League City UMC had outgrown our landlocked location at 1411 West Main Street. On August 13, 2017, our 3rd location held its final church services and a service of deconsecration. Many past members from far and wide came home to say goodbye to our home. The church cornerstone was opened, and the contents displayed at one last potluck dinner. We may have moved on, but we leave behind the street name, Wesley Drive which will always hint to its Methodist Origins.
On August 20th, we held our first church service at 1601 League City Parkway West. The service was attended by several former LCUMC ministers, members of city hall, and many past and present members.
On Wednesday, August 23rd, Hurricane Harvey struck, flooding our former location.
