Have you met Avery?
Avery was baptized here at League City United Methodist Church in July, 2006. Her dad grew up in League City and has been a church member since childhood. Her grandparents Bill and Patti Martin were long-time members. Avery is nine years old.
When her grandmother passed away a few weeks ago, Avery wanted to do something to honor her. She remembered that her grandmother always wanted to help people, so she decided to collect food for our neighbors in need and knocked on 171 doors in her subdivision. Last Friday she and her parents brought a pick up load of food for our Neighbor to Neighbor ministry. While they were here, they worked with our Food Truck ministry and then stayed to sort and bag the food they had collected from their neighbors. Avery's mom said she worked so hard she fell asleep in the car on the way home. Avery said, "It was so hot! I didn't know you could sweat until all your clothes were wet but it was worth it to help the people that came that day."
She loves Vacation Bible School and Sunday School here at LCUMC. Her favorite memory at church is walking into Sunday School and discovering her friend Owen was already here... and that his mother was her Sunday School Teacher.
Avery plans to serve God in our Helping Hands Ministry in the future. After her grandmother's memorial service she was surprised to find all the food that the Helping Hands folks had prepared for their family. She wants to help Jeanne, Terry and Sherry whenever she can. She thinks that it is a wonderful ministry to families when they are sad.
She also plans to work more with the Food Truck ministry and wants to learn Spanish, so she can help translate. She has already started collecting items for our Neighbor to Neighbor Ministry emergency hygiene kits.
Her favorite scripture is Joshua 1: 9 because it reminds her of her friend Josh. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
